They're called 'Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms', or SNiPs for short. They're the bits of our genes that make us all different, and the discovery that individual gene SNiPs have a specific function is going to revolutionise healthcare.
Gene SNiPs?
Ok. Time out for a quick genetics lesson. You know we all have genes... about 30,000 of them at last count, and each of those genes is made up of hundreds of thousands of what the genetic researchers call 'base pairs' or 'nucleotides'. How you arrange those pairs side by side is what differentiates one gene from another.
Here's the best bit... scientists are now discovering what differences in the end-to-end sequence of those pairs (your gene expression) means to the function of that gene, and THAT is going to change your future.
It's a technology that we've really embraced at Rejuvenation Plus, and we're proud to be associated with one of the world's leading gene SNiP research companies, GeneLink Inc.
Our Dermagenetics skin care range is just the first example of the end results of this new science.
The GeneLink scientists uncovered 5 genes that control the way your skin ages. They then discovered subtle differences in those genes, called 'polymorphisms'. Those differences cause your skin to react differently to certain external ageing stresses, and once they discovered why, they could do something about it.
It's a glimpse into the future. We predict that within 10 years, your visit to your local doctor will include a reference to your gene SNiPs.
